The First Entry

9:27 AM

Fancy title for a blog eh? I may or may not have taken the idea from Eminem.

For some odd reason, I feel the need to start a blog.  I don’t know why.  So for days I was thinking and thinking about blog ideas.  I am thinking now as I write this, I overthought a bit.  I had an idea that this should be this great big thing because you never know who might be reading.   Apparently I needed it to be themed as well.  I even went to Facebook to my wonderful group of friends to ask for ideas.   Here are some of the things that they came up with:

Movies that are awesome that you’ve never heard of – Nick
Virtual Diary- Nathaniel
People from the bus you spontaneously decide to follow-Ryan
Life with Strangers-Bonnie
Building a music career-Bonnie
The REAL Lauren-Bonnie
Things my dad the UM Pastor says!-Sandra
Life of a single female young adult-JM
Reality TV for the readers-JM

So guess what I am going to do? Incorporate all of them! J  But mostly I think this will be about my life and my opinion.  So in order to set the tone, you should probably know some stuff about me.

On my twitter profile (@OrdinaryLauren) in the description section, it says this: “I'm a Christian AND Liberal *gasp!*. Also a United Methodist Pastor's kid in discernment about where to go next in life. I also write and record music. :)”  While it is difficult to explain who you are in a limited amount of characters, this is probably the best condensed version of myself that I have been able to come up with in my 24 (soon to be 25) years of living.

If you follow me in “real” life you know that I am VERY busy.  I work full time at Bensussen Deutsch & Associates (www.bdainc.com) located in Woodinville, WA.  They are a promotional merchandise company.  Now if you are asking yourself “What the heck do you mean by that Lauren?” I’ll tell you!  Essentially what we do is we work with Fortune 500 companies to help them get product out to their customers and that could be to the general public or internally to their employees.  Our company does more than this, but it’s hard to explain in a sentence or two.  Go to the website if you want to know more.  We also own 2 brands PowerA and Munito.  What I do, is when my Account Manager wins an order, I run it.   I communicate with the factories we work with to make sure that they meet all of our deadlines.  This can be very stressful at times but I love it.

I do have a part-time job as well.  I work as a part-time youth director at Federal Way United Methodist Church located in Auburn, WA.  This is probably one of my most rewarding jobs.  I bet by now you are thinking, “You work in Woodinville AND Federal Way?  Where do you live?”  I live in North Seattle.  It’s a lot of driving but I wouldn’t have my life any other way right now.   Hopefully someday I will only have one job but right now, it’s where I am supposed to be.

I do have a personal life although it may not seem like it sometimes!  Right now, I am entered into The Biggest Loser competition at my gym Vision Quest in the Lake City area of Seattle.  I know that I am not going to win, but having the support system while I am trying to lose weight always helps.  But currently I am in the top 25 in the competition so that’s not too shabby!  But if I am not at work or the gym, I am most likely out with friends either trying out a new restaurant or watching a movie.  I get my energy from being around people so to have time with people I really care about is really special to me.

You may or may not be wondering now about the part in my twitter profile description, “Also a United Methodist Pastor's kid in discernment about where to go next in life”.   I am wondering that as well.   There are a lot of things that God has put on my heart recently that I am going to spend the next year or so finally digging deep into what God is calling me to do.  I guess that is part of the reason for this blog, it’s an opportunity to showcase the real me and hopefully help discern my call.

I think that is good enough for an opening entry, yes?  More to come. Stay tuned!

P.S. I highly encourage commenting! :)

  1. Good start - and while I'm still not entirely clear on what you do at work (the day job) - I'm clearer than I was. So thanks! lol. I'm looking forward to reading your discernment process and whatever else you post.

  2. Also, while Eminem may have used that line, it originated from a TV game show called To Tell The Truth. Here's the link on Wiki:

I remember watching this show and trying to guess who the real person was - don't remember if I was very good at it, though!
